Book collection - a bit of history
The library was the basis for the birth of the Nowy Sącz museum. According to some researchers, the museum was established at the Municipal Library. Józef Szujski in 1892, passing at the beginning of the 20th century, together with the library, under the management of the Folk School Society. According to others, the starting date of our museum institution was the will of Józef Wieniawa-Zubrzycki, a collector, bibliophile and philanthropist, who in 1896 bequeathed the manor house at ul. Jagiellońska 35, together with a collection of five hundred books, intended for the creation of a "general initial library and museum for the city". A few years later, in May 1909, the Board of the People's School Society decided to establish the "Museum of the Sącz Land" at the library. Szujski. After many organizational vicissitudes, formal procedures and construction works, the museum was opened as an independent entity in the almost completely restored Nowy Sącz castle on August 12, 1938. There can be no doubt that the established institution began to organize its own library and archive. The German occupation resulted in almost complete loss of museum and library collections.
In February 1945, the institution was re-established, based on the scarce surviving part of the pre-war collection. Initially, the museum was located at ul. Pijarska 21 in the post-Franciscan complex. In 1949, the museum collection consisted of 2,038 exhibits, and the library resources consisted of only 125 surviving volumes. In 1965, the institution moved to a new seat in the "Dom Gotycki" at ul. Lwowska. According to the inventory from 1992, it already collected 13,083 exhibits, and the library grew to 8,290 items.

Manor from Łososina Górna - the seat of the Library
The museum library is housed in a manor house in Miasteczko Galicyskie, which is a replica of a manor house erected at the beginning of the 19th century in Łososina Górna.
“… wooden, carcass construction, one-story, rectangular, two-bay with two side wings at the back. The roof on the building is hipped with slightly concave slopes. From the inn, there is a porch on four columns, with a gable roof and a gable. Inside, a fireplace from the first half of the 19th century…” (Dutkiewicz J., “Catalogue of Art Monuments in Poland” volume I Krakow Voivodship, issue 7 Powiat limanowski p. 6.).

During the Galician sack in 1846, the peasants plundered and destroyed the manor in Salmon, and the owner barely escaped with his life. In 1929, an agrarian school was established here (the first in Poland, the so-called Mountain Agricultural School), which taught how to farm on stony Beskid soil. It existed until 1952.
