Palm Sunday 2026
The Palm Sunday celebration at the Sącz open-air museum is traditionally held in the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul from Łososina Dolna. During the procession at Mass, a figure of Jesus riding a donkey is carried around the church. Christ, dressed in a red robe, raises his right hand in a gesture of blessing and holds a small palm in his left hand.
The sculpture of Christ on the donkey, placed on a four-wheeled platform, is a faithful replica of a figure from the first half of the 16th century, originally from the Poor Clares’ convent in Stary Sącz. It was made using a casting technique from a wood-like material resistant to weather conditions. The Mass featured a performance by the Lachy Song and Dance Ensemble.
On that day, visitors to the open-air museum could also see how traditional Easter cakes are baked and how baskets—used to carry food for blessing—are woven. We also demonstrated how wooden noisemakers are made.
