Description
Pieniny corset typical of highlander women from Szczawnica. Made of black velvet. The armholes, neckline and shoulder straps are trimmed with a yellow crepe ribbon. Corset fastened with the so-called "horses", to which a red ribbon is attached and tied.
The presented corset has unique embroidery on the two front parts and on the back. It presents wonderful bouquets of wild flowers, often found in July fields. Landscapes of cereal fields painted with red poppies and dark blue cornflowers were used not only by famous creators of Polish culture and art - writers, poets, composers and painters, but also by folk artists who were also able to notice the beauty of the surrounding nature, even though once cereal flowers were considered weeds. And so, between the ears of grain, you can see red poppies, blue cornflowers and white ruddy flowers on the bodice, and below, here and there, a late spring forget-me-not sticks out... A view that was once typical of the Pieniny fields, where grain was grown. Today, such cultivation is becoming rarer and even insignificant. Poppies and cornflowers were pushed to unattractive roadsides, ditches or ruderal areas. Often, the image of these beautiful plants remains only on colorful Pieniny costumes.
