Description

The work came to the Museum's collection in 1948 as a gift from a resident of Limanowa. It was probably made in the interwar period.
The bottle is made of colorless, thick glass of the old type, cuboidal, height 25 cm, width of the sides: 11 cm and 7.5 cm. Wooden cork, turned, height 5.5 cm. The plug is designed in such a way that it is impossible to remove it. It has a long transverse lock inside the bottle.
The composition shows a staging of the Golgotha hill at the moment of the death of Jesus.

Christ Crucified in the center of the composition. Blood flows from his pierced side into a chalice placed at the base of the cross. Under the cross, three women in richly decorated tulle dresses. Things and symbols related to the Passion of the Lord are leaned on or placed close to the shaft of the cross: a ladder with a scarf of St. hanging on it. Veronica, skull, lamb, rooster, torture tools, symbolic signs of the Sun and Moon.
What attracts attention is the true "masterpiece" of the performance of this composition. The diameter of the bottle neck opening is only 2 cm! All parts of the composition, located inside the bottle, had to be made outside, in the smallest elements, and only then, placed individually inside the bottle, were they assembled into the final scene of the Passion of the Lord. The method of making this extraordinary work remains unknown.
The second, very similar work, /MNS 10361/, was purchased by the museum in 1979 from a resident of the village of Stańkowa. This village is located near Limanowa, so it is very likely that this work was made by the same artist, who may have been a resident of the Limanowa region.
The museum will be grateful for any information about similar works that may still be in the possession of residents of our region.
