Performance "Storm over Poprad"
On August 30th at 4:00 PM, the Teatr Tej Ziemi (Teatr This Ziemi) performed "The Tempest on the Poprad River" at the Evangelical Church in the Nowy Sącz open-air museum. The performance is inspired by Shakespeare's "The Tempest" and Carpathian mythology. It tells the story of Mira – the owner of a guesthouse on the Poprad River – and her son Arek, who face family trauma in the shadow of local legends and beliefs. The performance combines shadow theatre, ritual, choreography, and Augusto Boal's "spectactor" method, drawing the audience into the interactive process of co-creating the performance. Motifs of rafting tradition and folk practices, such as the making of a candle, are woven into the story, lending the whole an organic and ritual character. This artistic encounter of art, myth, and forum theatre simultaneously becomes a story about memory, reconciliation, and the strength of community.
