"Storm over Poprad"

On August 30th at 4:00 PM, a performance titled "Storm over Poprad" will take place at the Evangelical Church in the Nowy Sącz Open-Air Museum. We invite you on behalf of the Teatr Tej Ziemi.

Rehearsals for the play "The Tempest on the Poprad River" are underway at the Sądecki Ethnographic Park in Nowy Sącz. This production by Teatr Tej Ziemi (Teatr of This Earth) is inspired by Shakespeare's "The Tempest" and the mythology of the Carpathians. It tells the story of Mira – the owner of a guesthouse on the Poprad River – and her son Arek, who grapple with family trauma in the shadow of local legends and beliefs. The performance combines shadow theatre, ritual, choreography, and Augusto Boal's "spectactor" method, drawing the audience into the interactive process of co-creating the performance. Motifs of rafting tradition and folk practices, such as the making of a candle, are woven into the story, lending the piece an organic and ritual character. This artistic encounter of art, myth, and forum theatre simultaneously becomes a story about memory, reconciliation, and the strength of community. Creators: Szymon Budzyk, Karolina Fortuna, Andrzej Skowron, Alicja Gołyźniak, Katarzyna Poręba.

This performance was created as part of the OFF Polska program organized by the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute.

Co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

The public project "Theater of This Earth - Bridges of Community and Art" co-financed by the National Institute of Freedom - Centre for the Development of Civil Society as part of the Government Program for the Development of Civic Organizations (PROO) for 2018-2030.
