Szczęsny Morawski Award for the Museum of the Sądecki Region

On July 5, 2024, the "Sądecczyzna" awards were presented at the District and Municipal Public Library in Stary Sącz. Szczęsny Morawski for 2023. In the Collective Work category, the book "Lost, saved. The history of the creation and dissolution of the collections of the Museum of the Sądecka Region and the post-war fate of the Museum in Nowy Sącz" published by the Museum of the Sądecka Region was rated the highest, edited by Beata Wierzbicka.
The work is a catalog for the exhibition of the same name, which could be viewed from September 29 to October 31, 2023 at the Gothic House (then a branch of the District Museum in Nowy Sącz). Let us recall that in January 1945, an ammunition depot in the Nowy Sącz castle, where the museum was located, was blown up. The building was almost completely destroyed and the museum collections were also lost. Few artifacts survived and they constituted the core of the collections built from scratch after the war. They were shown at the "Lost, Saved" exhibition.

In parallel with the organization of the exhibition in 2023, the Museum's employees and collaborators conducted research in the archives, looking for documents that would provide a picture of the losses suffered by the Nowy Sącz museology as a result of the destruction of the castle, the predatory activities of the occupier, and the dispersion of the collections. The result of their work is a catalog honored with the "Sądecczyzna" Award. Szczęsny Morawski. The authors of the publication are: Piotr Wierzbicki, Dawid Golik, Leszek Migrała, Maria Marcinowska, Bartłomiej Czech, Justyna Stasiek-Harabin, Joanna Hołda, Beata Wierzbicka and Edyta Ross-Pazdyk.

The publication is available free of charge at the ticket office of the Main Building of the Museum, at Jagiellońska 56.

Let us add that in the category of individual works the award went to professor dr hab. Jerzy Rajman for the book The Royal Castle in Nowy Sącz: (around 1300-1611), publisher - Scientific Publishing House of the Pedagogical University.

Anna Totoń was awarded for her work "Memories" and her entire publishing activity.

The meeting was led by the director of the Stary Sącz library, Monika Jackowicz-Nowak. Dr. Robert Ślusarek, director of the Sądecka Region Museum, informed about the objectives and achievements of the Award, while the decision of the Chapter was presented by Bożena Mściwujewska-Kruk, former editor-in-chief of "Almanac Muszyna".
