Józef Fiedor has died

Józef Fiedor, a wheelwright and carpenter from Łomnica-Zdrój, has passed away at the age of 81. To those of us in the museum community, he was a colleague; to many of us, a friend. He was a cheerful, modest man, but we remember him above all as a master craftsman. For over 50 years, he practiced the demanding trade of wheelwrighting—he was, in all likelihood, the last traditional wheelwright in the Sącz region. He could not only craft a wooden wagon wheel from scratch but also speak beautifully about his passion; this is why we so often invited him to our open-air museum events dedicated to traditional rural crafts and occupations. He was always surrounded by a circle of visitors, ever ready to share his memories and engage in conversation. His passing leaves a void.
