Event
"Crafts Trail" – an educational event at the Sącz Ethnographic Park
Autumn in the countryside was a season of abundance. Once the harvest was in, granaries and barns overflowed with produce, yet this did not signal a time for rest. Further tasks awaited the farmers: preparing the fields, sowing winter crops, and securing the farmstead for the winter months. Village artisans, too, found themselves with plenty of work during this period. We invite you to the Sącz Ethnographic Park to discover—through hands-on experience—the activities that sustained village inhabitants for generations, and to gain a deeper understanding of the interconnections between people, work, technology, nature, and the community.
During the event, visitors will have the opportunity to see horse-drawn ploughing, grain threshing with flails, and boards being planed using nothing but human muscle power. We will present not only farm work, but also less obvious aspects of life in the past, such as activities for children and young people in a rural school. On the day, the open-air museum village will also be visited by a wandering beggar, who will share stories of what he saw in the world during his long journeys.
OUTDOOR GAME
We have prepared an outdoor game for school students, offering an opportunity to discover rural life through action, observation and independent exploration. As they complete successive tasks, participants will learn about the rhythm of life shaped by the seasons and nature, discover traditional farming methods, and explore the connections between everyday work, the local landscape and the history of the region.
