General Information

Pieniny Museum Józef Szalaya is located in the buildings of the former border guard in Szlachtowa near Szczawnica. In the main building, at the permanent exhibition, we learn about the past of the Pieniny region. Stories of people who have lived here for centuries, before the spa in Szczawnica was established. We learn what the Dunajec River and mountain pastures meant to them. We will hear why they had to leave their homes and lands. We start our walk along the Dunajec Gallery - a river that connects the towns of Pieniny: Czorsztyn, Sromowce, Szczawnica and Krościenko, becoming part of their history. The nature of the Pieniny region is combined with its rich culture. We enter the Pieniny microcosm - the borderland of cultures, religions and nationalities. We get to know the inhabitants of the Pieniny villages, who were united by a common pastoral economy, similar construction, and folk costume. We learn about their characteristic occupations - rafting among the Highlanders and tinkering among the Ruthenians. The further route leads through the resort in Szczawnica and leads us to modern times. You can get to know the healing methods used in the 19th-century health resort, discover the charm of the former Szczawnica landscapes and interiors. Learn about the history of bathing guests, many of whom came from the aristocratic, scientific, literary and artistic elites, which was extremely important for the development of culture in this region. We finish the trip on the banks of the Dunajec River, on the former Pieniny Road - a favorite place for walks of guests from Szczawnica.

In the second building there is a studio warehouse and a room for temporary exhibitions. The studio warehouse is also a place for storing objects and an exhibition room. During a visit to it, we can get acquainted with the collection of the Pieniny Museum.

Procedure in case of evacuation

Upon making a decision to evacuate from the premises or premises of the Museum, all persons staying in the Museum are obliged to listen to messages regarding further proceedings, and above all:

After the alarm is triggered and the evacuation from the Museum is announced, you are obliged to comply with the instructions of the person in charge of the evacuation operation and to cooperate with them.
The evacuation operation is managed by a Museum employee with an ID card or a firefighter.
If you are evacuating in a group led by an assistant, also follow his instructions.
Notify other people in the room (or in the surrounding area) about the nature of the threat and the need to evacuate.
Museum employees help people with disabilities in efficient evacuation until the arrival of specialized units of the State Fire Service.
Escape routes and emergency exits in the facilities are marked with green signs. These signs are lit for about 2 hours in the event of a failure of the basic lighting and will show you the direction of evacuation.
Follow these signs for the shortest route to the nearest stairwell or exit directly outside the facility.
If you are not in the zone directly affected by the fire and cannot evacuate yourself, wait for the Museum employee to come and help you during the evacuation.
The first to evacuate are people with limited mobility, people requiring the help of an assistant, e.g. people in wheelchairs, blind, deaf or elderly people unable to evacuate on their own.
People from the rooms where the fire started are also the first to evacuate.
Priority is also given to people who are in rooms that are in the way of the fire spreading.
If you are evacuating in a group, make sure that people who can move on their own are at the end of the group.
If your evacuation route is blocked, immediately contact a Museum employee with the available means (e.g. by phone).
Telephone number to the box office at the Pieniny Museum 18 262 22 58

When rooms are heavily smoked, move in a stooped position, try to keep your head as low as possible, where there is less smoke.
If you can, cover your mouth and nose with a damp handkerchief, it will make it easier for you to breathe.
When evacuating through heavily smoked rooms, move along the walls so as not to lose orientation as to the direction of movement.
If you are on the exhibition, on the first floor, remember that in the event of a fire, the elevator will be closed.
After leaving the building, an employee of the Museum will show you where to go. Expect further help there.
