Jan Józefowski was born in 1899 in Świdnik. He went to school in Tęgobórz and Nowy Sącz. He learned to play the violin from his father, who was a popular village violinist, willingly invited to weddings and parties. In 1932, he became involved with the regional team of the Rural Youth Circle in Rojówka. Thanks to belonging to this band, Jan Józefowski was able to perform at folklore events outside his own already in the interwar period
environment. He achieved his greatest artistic successes after the war in
Song and Dance Ensemble "Lachy". For 14 years he belonged to the band of this group and participated in almost all performances at various folk festivals, competitions and reviews. Together with Jan, his two sons - Rudolf and Józef played in the band, who in the following years became the continuators of their father's activities, supplying the compositions of numerous bands and bands in the region, as well as passing on the traditional repertoire to subsequent generations of musicians. The entire legacy of the Józefowski bands, the repertoire performed by them was collected, ordered and written down by Rudolf
Józefowski. In a large and rich collection of over 200 pages, krakowiaks, sztajerki, polkas.
The main goal of the project is to raise local awareness
culture, strengthening the sense of regional identity, preserving
documentation and popularization of intangible aspects of heritage
culture among its bearers in terms of music. Composition
the tasks will include the publication of scores written down by Rudolf Józefowski with a commentary by specialists and four source CDs -
educational, the preparation of which will be preceded by archival queries and
field research on folk music, as well as a folklore event combined with concerts and workshops.
