Competition "Traces of tradition in the open-air museums of Lesser Poland"

The District Museum in Tarnów together with the partners of the project "Open-air museums - systemic care for heritage in the open-air museums of Lesser Poland" invite you to participate in the competition "Tradition in the open-air museums of Lesser Poland". The theme of this year's, second edition of the Competition is: "Traditional animal motifs in ornamentation and folk art of Małopolska."
The project aims to show the richness of traditional decorations in Małopolska, inspired by the zoomorphic motif. This is a pattern often found in folk art, with numerous local variations and variants. It appears both as the main theme of rural art and as a decorative element of crafts and production. It is represented in traditional pottery, toys, blacksmiths, woodcarvers, ceremonial arts, cutouts, and souvenirs. Sometimes it appears in the decoration of external walls of houses, interior decoration and their design. It is also present in folk art as a separate painting topic. The most common motifs are birds (peacocks, roosters, storks, "birds", parrots, eagles), domestic animals (cats, horses, lambs, sheep) and forest animals such as deer, roe deer, teddy bears, chamois. Sometimes there are also insect motifs (butterflies, bees, dragonflies).

The competition is addressed to children and young people from the Lesser Poland Voivodeship visiting open-air museum exhibitions, participants of meetings, workshops, museum lessons, and open-air events held in open-air museums participating in the project "Open-air museums - systemic care for heritage in open-air museums of Lesser Poland". Prizes will be awarded in two categories: primary school students and secondary school students.

As part of the application, participants are required to create and deliver their own art work on the topic: "Animals in the folk art of Małopolska", and a multimedia presentation referring to the same issues.

Applications can be sent until October 10, 2023 to the correspondence address or e-mail address: Muzeum Zagroda Felicji Curyłowej in Zalipie (e-mail: zalipie@muzeum.tarnow.pl), Muzeum Dwór w Dołęga (dolega@muzeum.tarnow.pl). ).
