Frames from the Jewish past of Nowy Sącz

Author - Elżbieta Długosz Publisher - District Museum in Nowy Sącz Nowy Sącz 2009

Jews came to Nowy Sącz in 1673 under the privilege of King Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki, confirmed by subsequent rulers. They mainly came from Wiśnicz, which was owned by the Lubomirski family. They were supposed to contribute to the economic development of the city and the region. World War II brutally interrupted their presence among the core of the Polish population, which had lasted almost three hundred years. Elżbieta Długosz outlines the history of the Jews of Nowy Sącz, presenting their culture, religion, customs and everyday life.
