Meeting with Ewa Mańkowska - author of the book "Hanna and Dorota"

We invite you to the Main Building of the Sądecka Region Museum for a meeting with the author Ewa Mańkowska devoted to the book entitled "Hanna and Dorota". This is an extremely interesting novel about the friendship of two painters, Hanna Rudzka-Cybisowa and Dorota Seydenman, associated with the painting group of Kapists, i.e. Polish colorists. The meeting will be led by Justyna Stasiek-Harabin
The biographies of Hanna Rudzka-Cybisowa and Dorota Seydenman and the description of the relationship between both artists were carefully presented by the author against the historical and moral background of Poland and Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries. Ewa Mańkowska found a lot of previously unknown information and threads, emphasizing the important but marginalized role of women in the formation and functioning of the artistic group, currently associated mainly with Jan Cybis, Józef Czapski and Artur Nacht-Samborski.

In "Hanna and Dorota" there are important threads also related to Nowy Sącz. The novel repeatedly mentions the figure of Maria Ritter, an artist from Nowy Sącz, a friend of both heroines, who was associated with the Kapists for some time, and the city itself became the place of the tragic death of Dorota Seydenman. The author was the first to reliably recreate the course of these events, and the priceless materials she found during her research in Nowy Sącz were the result of exceptional coincidences.

The meeting will take place in the Main Building of the Sądecka Land Museum, where the works of Maria Ritter are presented until March 2, 2025.
