Presentation of the catalog of the exhibition "Lost, Saved"
From September 29 to October 31, 2023, the Gothic House hosted the "Lost, Saved" exhibition devoted to the history of the creation and dissolution of the collections of the Sądecka Land Museum and the post-war fate of the Museum in Nowy Sącz. Its main part were artifacts that found their way to museum collections before the war and luckily survived it. As we know, this is only a small percentage of what has survived from the original collections. In January 1945, an ammunition depot in the Nowy Sącz castle, where the museum was located, was blown up. The building was almost completely destroyed and the museum collections were also lost.
In parallel with the organization of the exhibition, Museum employees carried out research in the archives, looking for documents that would provide a picture of the losses suffered by the Nowy Sącz museology as a result of the destruction of the castle, the predatory activities of the occupier, as well as the dispersion of the collections (in an attempt to save the collections from annexation and destruction, some were hidden by private individuals. There are speculations that not all artifacts returned to the Museum). The result of the historians' work is the catalog of the "Lost, Saved" exhibition, the presentation of which we cordially invite you to.
