Description
The portrait is painted in an unusual way, in monochromatic shades of brown and depicts
Marshal Józef Piłsudski dressed in uniform with decorations pinned on him: a cross
Virtuti Militari, the Officers' Badge of the Rifle Associations "Umbrella" and the French Order
National Legion of Honor. There is a signature in the lower left corner: A. Suchanek /
1921.
Based on an entry in the museum inventory, probably created at the end of the 19th century 50s of the 20th century, for years it was believed that the painting was transferred to the collection in 1948. However, in inventory written just after the end of World War II, curator of the Roman Museum Szkaradek, included its description at the beginning of the book, among the objects saved during the war. According to the annotation there, the portrait was painted from nature in Nowy Sącz. Down The painting was posed for the artist by Józef Piłsudski, who came to the city in August 1921 to receive the diploma of honorary citizen of Nowy Sącz awarded to him in 1916.
