Exhibition "Women painters of Warsaw, painters of Nowy Sącz"

The exhibition "Warsaw Painters, Nowy Sącz Painters" is a unique opportunity to get to know the art of nine non-professional artists associated with Warsaw and the Nowy Sącz region. This is an extraordinary meeting, bringing together strong personalities for whom artistic work was a very important part of their lives. Many difficult experiences gave shape to their art. Determined, talented and full of passion, they created works that delight, move and do not leave you indifferent.

The exhibition at the Sądecka Land Museum, created in cooperation with the State Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw, is another encounter with unique non-professional art. The first one was "arranged" by Aleksander Jackowski (1920-2017), the most outstanding Polish researcher and promoter of Polish non-professional art. It took place almost forty years ago at the District Museum in Radom at the exhibition "Talent, passion, intuiti

Following Jackowski, the State Ethnographic Museum decided in 2023 to recall the profiles of four Warsaw painters: Maria Korsak, Łucja Mickiewicz, Leokadia Płonkowa and Halina Walicka. The "Warsaw Painters" exhibition was very popular and allowed us to rediscover the unique art and biographies of the presented artists. Another, equally interesting meeting was organized in the summer of 2023 by the Ethnographic Museum in Krakow in cooperation with the State Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw. Women artists from the capital were then compared with interesting artists from Krakow.

Now it's the turn of a unique exhibition in Nowy Sącz, where four Warsaw artists, i.e. Maria Korsak, Łucja Mickiewicz, Leokadia Płonkowa and Halina Walicka, will meet with artists from Nowy Sącz - one of the most outstanding artists from the art brut circle, Maria Wnęk, and interesting and appreciated, although often intuitive painters unknown to the general public: Władysława Iwańska, Anna Liber, Helena Chwistek and Antonia Juszczak. The latter's works will be presented at an exhibition at the Sądecka Land Museum for the first time.

The exhibition will be available for viewing in the Main Building of the Sądecka Land Museum at ul. Jagiellońska 56 from February 16 to May 5.
