About the museum
Museum of Nowy Sącz land is a self-government cultural institution organized by the Małopolskie Voivodeship. The main objectives of the Museum are: collecting, storing, preserving, developing and making available collections in the field of history, art, archaeology, ethnography, architecture and folk architecture, as well as scientific, educational and cultural activities. The museum collections are gathered in seven branches and subsidiaries in Nowy Sącz: in the Main Building, the Maria Ritter Gallery and Old Bourgeois Interiors, the Sądecki Ethnographic Park and the Galician Town; in Szlachtowa - in the Pieniny Museum; in Krynica-Zdrój - at the Nikifor Museum; in Podegrodzie - in the Museum of Lachy Sądeckie.

History of the museum
The beginnings of museology in Nowy Sącz date back to the turn of the 1880s and 1890s, when memorabilia of the past began to be collected. In 1896, Józef Wieniawa-Zubrzycki allocated his house at ul. Jagiellońska 35 for the seat of the municipal library and museum.

Object of the week
Figure "Christ on a donkey"
Placed on a four-wheeled cart, the sculpture of Christ on a donkey is a faithful copy of the figure from the first half of the 19th century. 16th century, from the Poor Clares monastery in Stary Sącz. It is made of wood-like mass, resistant to weather conditions, perfect for objects used and stored in changing climatic conditions. The sculpture was created to recreate the traditional Palm Sunday procession in the Sądecki Ethnographic Park, commemorating Christ's entry into Jerusalem. It shows Jesus dressed in a red robe, sitting astride a donkey, raising his right hand in a gesture of blessing, and originally holding a rein or a palm tree with his left hand.

The collection of the Specialist Library is over 20,000. volumes. We offer e.g. specialist literature in many fields, including: history, art history, ethnography, museology, conservation of works of art and a rich collection of sandecians.

We encourage you to use our additional offer. We offer the rental of guest rooms, the space of the Sądecki Ethnographic Park for film and photo sessions, churches in the open-air museum for concerts, weddings and other celebrations, as well as stylish museum rooms for lectures or industry conferences.
